Yes I gave it five stars even though I didn't want to. I thought this story would be your typical sweet, Christian love story. You know the one I'm talking about. Girl is angry, meets great guy, falls in love and discovers God. And of course there would be colorful characters playing their parts. Well I was so wrong!! This story took turns I didn't expect, had characters that were so real I feel like I could go visit them and kept me wishing the story wouldn't end. Honestly one of the best books I've read in a long time!

This is not another run of the mill, poorly written, overly preachy, chock full of cardboard characters Christian story. This is a well crafted novel covering some pretty intense true to life situations, and doing so with authentic dialogue and emotion. This is a book to savor over a couple of days. Absolutely worth the read, if only to experience truly gifted writing.
Recently I have been reading Christian romance and mystery books. Many of these books have a formula in their plots. "Thankfully Home Another Way" does not use this same formula. If the formula I am referring to was used in this book then Sara would not have left the small town and she would have at least be engaged to the Pastor. I really enjoy all the twists and turns in this book which surprised me so many times. The book had an appropriate & great ending. The story left us wanting to know more about these characters. But if we never read a sequel we could still use our own imagination as how the story continued.
Sarah is a selfish, self-centered young woman . Raised by her grandmother not fitting that title(surly not a role model). Left to her own devices financially and socially Sarah is well under way to ruin her life and damage anyone with whom she comes in contact. The author does a good job revealing Sarah and the troubled
reasons Sarah is who she is at the point we meet her . She is on her way to grab
an inheritance from a father she hates and hasn't seen for years. The town of Jonah, sets the Biblical tone, is home to only a few dozen souls and each is drawn
so well, you want to have more of them. It is Sarah's interaction with these people that make the story rich. The ending came too swiftly-I wonder if the author didn't leave an opening for a sequel-I hope so! There was a little predictability in the ending but also a couple of surprises. One could probably read Parish's other books with some assurance they would be good.
While the protagonist, bitter and angry Sara, was hard to like in the beginning, Parrish draws us in with her story telling and prose. Sarah's journey was real to life, taking a hard look at how skewed the heart can be for those committed to bitterness and hate.

A great surrounding cast of characters adds to the depth and heart of this story. The twist at the end was a great and pleasant surprise.

I was never really sure of the setting. I know it was cold and snowy, but I couldn't see the town or the people. It seemed like a dark and brooding fog to me, but in retrospect, the town was the perfect metaphor for Sarah's heart.

The spiritual content was communicated as if from the heart of a true believer.

I recommend this book. Well done.
LOVED this book!! Bought two (a gift & for me). Parrish goes deep. She asks hard questions The questions we would ask. She reminds us to be careful you probably don't know all the facts. People are complicated. Histories aren't usually squeaky clean. Give grace, at least as much as you want to receive. This story walks out the truth that "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."
I can't believe I hadn't heard about this debut book by Christa Parrish years ago. I was blown away by her raw emotion. Her characters are such real, flawed Christians, I felt like FINALLY someone understood true faith struggles. If you want a sappy HEA book, don't buy this. If you want a book with faith struggles so real, you will weep, then buy this book. After finishing this book, I immediately purchased another book by this amazing author.
Christa Parrish is probably my favorite author! I have loved every one of her books. The characters are so real! I look forward to any book that she has written. I would highly recommend this book, or any of her other books!
